The Goals

  • The Shrine shall be a sign of the active and saving presence of the Lord in history, and as a special place of respite in which the people of God on its journey to the heavenly city (cf. Heb 13:14) can renew their strength for the pilgrim journey.
  • The Shrine shall be a great memorial of salvific act of our Lord Jesus Christ who died for us, such that it shall provide people with a sacred place that may have a deep spiritual significance - where God is revealed, honored and worshipped. (cf. Gen 28:17)
  • The Shrine shall serve as a sacred venue for the specific purpose having the pilgrimages of the people and other devotees who go there, especially on Fridays, to worship the Father through the Son in the Holy Spirit, as well as to be reconciled with God, the Church and one's neighbors, as well as to ask for the graces necessary in life through the mercy of Lolo Uweng.
  • As regards the existing popular piety from the people of the Diocese, the Shrine shall transcend its parochial scope and responsibility within the Vicariate of San Pedro and will thus have a wider ecclesiastical territorial integrity as may be defined by the diocese. It shall also welcome people from all walks of life regardless of their parochial affiliation.
  • With view of strengthening the faith of the pilgrims and devotees, the Shrine shall be an exemplary place for the proclamation of the word, of call to conversion, of intercession, and of intense liturgical life which shall be centered on the celebration of the eucharistic sacrifice.
  • Furthermore, in accordance with the provisions of can. 1233 and 1234, in the spiritual interests of the faithful for the good of souls, the Shrine shall make available to the faithful certain privileges and means of salvation upon approval of the Diocesan Bishop including granting of indulgences, faculties of hearing confessions, and the promotion of approved norms of particular devotion ascribed from which the Shrine is dedicated.
  • As the diocesan center for devotion to Jesus in the Holy Sepulcher, fondly called by the devotees as Lolo Uweng, short for Emmanuel del Mundo, the Shrine shall initiate and undertake an extensive and a more sedulous information and education drive for the pilgrims and properly instruct them on matters essentials to the correct practice of the devotion and faith in God through this special devotion. Introduce and propagate the devotion to Lolo Uweng as long as these pious and sacred.
  • The Shrine shall foster other pious and sacred practices, and/or other activities, to further practices shall be in full harmony with the laws of the Church. (cf. can. 839 5 2).
